The Bono Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government through the Ministry of Education by saying, the implementation of the double track system in the Senior High Schools has caused mass failure in the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, for weeks now, Ghanaians have been wondering why the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination results for Ghana have not been released since the examinations ended in July this year when other countries like Nigeria have released their results.
In his latest article, he noted that, deep throat sources at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have revealed that there was unprecedented mass failure in the examination leading to only 23 percent of students passing all subjects.
He again said, according to their source, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed WAEC through the Minister for Education Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to change the results such that more students will pass the exams.
“This directive is creating tension between the Board of WAEC and Akufo-Addo’s government.” He alleged.
“Some of the examiners and experts interviewed attributed the unprecedented mass failure to the obnoxious double track system that was introduced as a result of the free SHS program which led to limited instructional time for teaching and learning.” He said.
