DSP Azugu’s unprofessional conduct redeems Emile Short Commission’s recommendation

Many Ghanaians have lauded praises on Justice Emile Francis Short’s Commission for it’s recommendations contained in a report to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo against DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu unprofessional conduct of Ayawaso West Wuogon Bye-Election Violence.

The applouds were widely circulated on social media while some commentators praised the independent work of the Commission on National Televsions and Radios.

According to Ghanaians, DSP Azugu’s unprofessional conduct which was shredded by President Nana Addo Dankwa through a white paper redeems Emile Short Commission’s recommendation following his recent unprofessional conduct in arresting Citi FM/TV Journalists.

Justice Emile Francis Short’s Commission was constituted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon Bye-Election Violence. The Commission made serious recommendations about DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu.

Among the recommendations contained in the Justice Short Commission’s Report was a striking request which is causing many people talking after three years.

This recommendation surfaced after DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu is said to have acted in similar situations by deploring heavily armed security personnel to the premises of Citi FM/TV to arrest their Journalist Zoe Abu Baidoo after arresting Caleb Kudah for filming at the National Security Premises. This act was described by many as a bad fate for DSP Azugu regarding the professional ethics and conduct of National Security.

The General Manager of Citi FM and Citi TV, Bernard Koku Avle, has also condemned the approach used by the Police in their attempt to arrest a journalist on the premises of the media house on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

The Emile Short Commission’s report on Ayawaso West Wuogon Bye-Election Violence in recommendations 8.3.3 said;

“The Commission recommends the immediate removal of DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu from command responsibility at the Ministry of National Security given his failure to appropriately command and control the SWAT team of which he had charge during the operation at the La Bawaleshie school polling station. It is recommended that he should be reassigned by the IGP”

Latest update on the nationwide issuance of license to GES staff

This very recommendation was welcomed by many Ghanaians, but to their surprise, government’s response via a White Paper has shredded DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu.

In the white paper, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said;

“(c) The Government takes note of the Commission’s recommendation in paragraph 8.3.3 on page 58 of the Report and refers the recommendation to the Inspector-General of Police for his consideration.”
