Management of the National Teaching Council (NTC) says they will begin a nationwide issuance of license to GES staff including In-Service Teachers as part of their mandate to professionalize the education sector.
The statement from National Teaching council (NTC) noted that, a team from its headquarters will be stationed across the various circuits in each District/Municipal/Metropolitan to commence the nationwide issuance of Teacher License and Registration Numbers for both professional public and private school teachers.
According to the Council, the nationwide exercise will commence in the Greater Accra Region across the circuit centres from Monday 17th May, 2021.

WHO QUALIFIED FOR TEACHERS’ LICENSE
According to the National Teaching Council (NTC), professional teachers who were trained by Accredited Educational Institutions (Both Colleges of Education and Universities running Education Programmes) and have been employed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) are captured under the process. Also, there’s arrangement for professional teachers who are yet to be employed by GES to acquire their license.
NON GES PROFESSIONAL STAFF
The National Teaching Council further explained that, non GES professional staff who are currently teaching in the Ghanaian classrooms or outside the classroom will be exempted from the current nationwide issuance of Teacher License. According to the Executive Secretary of NTC, they are making special arrangements to capture such categories of GES staff into their data base system.

WHO IS A QUALIFIED TEACHER
Qualified teachers, in the context of the current exercise, refers to teachers who have been trained and certified as teachers by accredited colleges and universities that train teachers.
NON PROFESSIONAL TEACHER
Non professional teachers, according to the Council are individuals who did not receive professional training and certified as a teacher by accredited Colleges of Education and universities that train teachers, though they are assigned temporal responsibility by GES . Non-qualified teachers’ temporal licensing shall follow after the mass registration exercise.

WHAT TO DO TO BE CAPTURED FOR TEACHERS’ LICENSE
All professional teachers who desire to continue to practice under GES are directed to visit NTC website via https://tpg.ntc.gov.gh to create Teacher’s Account, upload their Personal Information, Public Teacher Specific, Academic History, Employment History etc to complete the online application.
This latest update came after the Ministry of Education, the National Teaching Council and the Ghana Education Service launched the Teacher License and Registration programme on Friday, 14th May, 2021 at the Ministers Conference Room (MOE).
