E/R: Over 20 people feared dead as boat capsized on the Volta Lake

Information available to Coverghana.com.gh suggest that, about twenty (20) people feared dead after a boat sailing on the River Volta capsized on it way at Kpedzi near Sokpoe, a suburb of Donkorkrom in the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.

According to sources, the boat was sailing from Dzamani in the Asuogyaman District to Agalakope near Madagascar, when it capsized following a heavy windstorm on late hours of Thursday, 27th May, 2020.

Assemblyman for Anyidzi Electoral Area, Raphael Kporha says, a rescue team who are fishermen were able to find some of the victims dead and some alive. He noted that, the team is currently on a search for the rest of the people.

Mr. Raphael Kporha in a conversation with Coverghana.com.gh said some fishermen from Sremkpo and Sokpoe were able to rescue some of the people immediately the incident occurred. He added that, the team also found some of the dead bodies and are currently kept in Donkorkrom District Hospital Mortuary.

Currently, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has also joined the rescue team in a search for all missing persons. Coverghana.com.gh will follow happening and report to you.
