EC to conduct voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to 27

The Electoral Commission (EC) has released its timetable for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, outlining key dates for various activities leading up to the polls.
According to the schedule obtained exclusively by the Daily Graphic, the EC will receive nominations for candidates from September 9 to 13, marking a significant milestone in the political season. Subsequently, the presidential ballot positions will be determined on September 23, 2024, followed by the parliamentary ballot positions on September 24, 2024.

In an effort to expedite the electoral process, the EC aims to declare the results of the presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise, provided everything progresses as planned.

Prior to the elections, the EC will conduct a voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024. This will be accompanied by a nationwide initiative to replace missing voter ID cards, commencing on May 30, 2024. To ensure widespread awareness, the EC plans to conduct 56 days of public education on the registration process from April 1 to May 26, 2024.
As part of the transparency measures, the EC will provide the provisional voters’ register to political parties between July 9 and 18, 2024, and organize an exhibition of the register from July 15 to 24, 2024. The final voters’ register is expected to be submitted to political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
In addition to engaging with political parties, the EC will hold meetings with stakeholders beyond the political realm and conduct its “Let the Citizen Know” series to foster understanding and trust in the electoral process.
The EC has also made provisions for Special Voting, scheduled for December 2, 2024, five days ahead of the main polls. This phase will cater specifically to security agencies and accredited media practitioners who will be fulfilling their duties on election day, December 7, 2024.
