The Former Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared elected Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu North Constituency.
Sources have disclosed that, the decision was taken by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress in a meeting held between the parties.
It is disclosed that, after a hearing conducted into the events surrounding the parliamentary primaries in Ketu North constituency, and upon establishing that the two ballot papers had serial numbers corresponding to the serial numbers in the ballot booklet assigned to the constituency.
The Committee chaired by the National Chairman, Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketiah together with the General Secretary, Hon Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey and the National Organizer, Joseph Yammin, has declared Edem Agbana as the duly elected parliamentary candidate for Ketu North.
Edem Agbana was represented by Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo as his lawyer and Elikplim Agbemava as lawyer for John Adanu.
BACKGROUNDÂ
According to the EC result declaration form, there is a tie between Eric Edem Agbana and John Adanu Zewu.
Edem Agbana had 360 votes when it was initially counted and John Adanu had 359 votes. However the agent of John Adanu called for a recount of his votes when counting for Shakas Seglah, an aspirant was about to begin, the recount was done which still stood at 359 when it was recounted.
The agents of John Adanu later brought an official complain to the EC for recount of all ballots which the EC obliged and did in the full glare of the agents.
From the ballot recount, it was detected that two of the ballots for Edem Agbana were not stamped which brought his votes to 358, it was also detected during the recount that one ballot of John Adanu was also not stamped which also reduced his votes to 358.
According to EC, this recount also affected Tanko who initially had 176 votes also had two of his ballots not stamped which also reduced his votes to 174.
According to the Electoral Commission, while this phase of the recounting was ongoing Edem Agbana had left the center.
The Electoral Commission has earlier announced a runoff between the two aspirants.
But, the Electoral Commission’s decision has been overturned by the a committee set-up by the party.
