Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, new Chelsea signee from FC Barcelona has taken the Number 9 jersey and this has caused a stir among Chelsea fans and football lovers.
Aubameyang is now the 17th player to wear Chelsea’s No.9 shirt since the introduction of squad numbers in 1993. Amazingly football players who have gone before him in the No 9 Jersey at Chelsea didn’t have so much successes. This has made the Jersey get a ‘cursed’ tag attached to it.
Players who wear the Jersey tend to struggle at the club as long as they are in the Jersey. Aubameyang’s fans and well wishers are therefore not excited that he also picked the number 9.
Thomas Tuchel, head coach of Chelsea says that everyone has decided to jinx the number 9 Jersey because of the ‘supposed cursed’ label. Tuchel added that regardless of the No 9 Jersey history, he believes that Aubameyang will break the jinx and will be successful even though he is in the 9.
