As Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Chirano Gold Mines Limited, a prominent underground and open pit gold mine located in the Western North Region of Ghana, is seeking highly qualified, proactive, and motivated individuals to fill the position of Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Chief Geotechnical Engineer to oversee and develop strategic geotechnical functions for both Underground and Open Pit Operations.
Ensure the stability of underground and pit walls through the supervision of ground control, quality, and testing programs.
Evaluate and propose optimal geotechnical engineering solutions for achieving planned objectives, including analysis of stope and pillar designs, mining sequencing, and ground support designs.
Refine stope designs and extraction sequences to optimize mine longevity and ore recovery.
Contribute to the development and execution of intermediate and long-term strategies that support the growth of the geotechnical function.
Identify risks and threats to achieving targets and implement programs to minimize or eliminate these risks.
Work closely with mine planning engineers, geologists, and operations to ensure robust and safe designs.
Develop systems and measures for assessing geotechnical performance and progress toward targets.
Build the capabilities of the team, identify high-potential talents, and actively develop key talent.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Mining, or Civil Engineering, preferably with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics.
Post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field is an asset.
Minimum of five (5) years of practical experience in both surface and underground mining environments.
Proficiency in conducting technical geotechnical work with limited supervision.
Strong knowledge and understanding of design basis and mechanisms identification and their impact on designs.
Familiarity with numerical modeling tools such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, MAP3D, and PHASE 2.
Thorough understanding of duty of care standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and mining inspection act and regulations.
Solid understanding of underground mining operations and a demonstrated commitment to safety.
Valid Ghanaian Driver’s License with good and defensive driving skills.

Health & Safety Manager

Position: Health & Safety Manager Reporting to the General Manager, the Health & Safety Manager will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all employees and visitors. Compliance with relevant standards, procedures, and legislation will be a top priority.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure full compliance with Safety, Mining, and other statutory Codes and Regulations.
Promote a strong Safety Culture and Hazard Awareness to achieve zero reportable safety incidents.
Develop and execute safety strategies aligned with the organization’s overall goals.
Maintain Health & Safety Programmes, emergency response readiness, and crisis management plans.
Facilitate risk assessments, support the development of H&S Risk Register and Control Plans.
Conduct coaching, inspections, audits, training, and awareness campaigns to ensure safety compliance.
Manage compliance with government agencies, shareholders’ interests, and health and safety legislation.
Oversee health and safety responsibilities, including reporting, investigation, analysis, and claims.
Perform safety audits and evaluate hazard controls for compliance with EHSMS.
Manage resources, prioritize tasks, and lead technical projects.
Implement change strategies and measure performance to drive continuous improvement.
Influence leaders and stakeholders to support health and safety initiatives.
Prepare business cases, reports, and recommendations for key stakeholders.
Review best practices and recommend improvements in health and safety.
Develop policies and practices and ensure adherence to established methods.
Set performance targets, monitor employee performance, and identify talent development opportunities.
Conduct performance evaluations and corrective actions as needed.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant Engineering field.
Minimum of ten (10) years of practical experience in a senior H&S role within the mining industry.
Postgraduate/Master’s degree and HSE Manager’s Certification will be advantageous.
Proficiency in developing, implementing, and auditing Health & Safety systems.
Strong investigation and data analysis skills.
In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Ability to manage diverse employees and engage in knowledge transfer.
Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
Willingness to work flexible shifts and under pressure.
