The Ghana Education Service (GES) has introduced semester academic system into the Basic Schools which has replaced the trimester system being practiced.
With the introduction of the semester which followed a Common Core Programme (CCP) Curriculum, each facilitator/teacher is expected to prepare weekly, semester and yearly scheme of learning as guide to effectively facilitate teaching and learning.

The academic year is classified into two semesters. This means that, every facilitator/teacher is mandated to prepare week endings for each of the two semesters at the Basic School level.
