It was all joy for Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) as they made history to the grand finale of the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The finals which featured Keta Senior High Technical School, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School and Prempeh College had only a female student among eight  (8) male students.

The female student, Francisca Lamini becomes the talk of the day after Keta SHTS wins against Wesley Girls’ Senior High School and Tamale Senior High School in keenly contested competition at the Semi-finals.

Many have doubted the intellectual prowess of young ladies in academic battle but, Francisca Lamini has become the first female student from the Volta Region to make it to the National Science and Maths Quiz finals since 1994 where the first contest was won by Prempeh College.

Who is Francisca Lamini?

Francisca Lamini is a Ghanaian Senior High School graduate and national heroine at the 2021 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition.

She comes from, the Volta Region of Ghana where she had both her first and second cycle education respectively. As of the time of writing this article, she has lived with her parents in the Volta Region even while receiving her High School Education.

Francisca Lamini was born in the year 2003 in Dabala to Bernedicta Awudi and Mr. Lamini. She was 19 years as of 2022.

Francisca Lamini Educational Background

Francisca Lamini and her younger brother Torfic Lamini was admitted to the Sanity International School Complex, Dabala in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region on 9th May, 2011 by their mother Benedicta Awudi as day students.

She started the school at Basic two (2) while the brother started from Kindergarten two (2).

Francisca Lamini sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2018.

The BECE results with Coverghana.com.gh shows that, she had one (1) in five subjects, two (2) in three subjects and three in a subject. She was also the best candidate of the school in the 2018 BECE.

She had aggregate seven with the best six subjects according to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) rules.

Francisca Lamini had admission to the Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) after she successfully passed the BECE. She was admitted into the school to pursue Science Programme.

She sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2021.

Francisca wrote the West Africa Examination Council’s November-December remedial examinations in her second year and out of it, she obtained eight As (8As) which already made her suitable for her university education.

Francisca Lamini has also become the first female student to make it to the grand finale of the National Science and Maths Quiz in the last eight (8) years.

Coverghana.com.gh research confirmed that, no female student has ever appeared at the grand finale after the 2013 contest which featured St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS where the St. Thomas Aquinas emerged the winner.

Francisca Lamini, the outstanding young lady, sets this records after eight years as KETASCO made history for the Volta Region in the ongoing 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) contests.

Currently, Francisca Lamini is pursuing her tertiary education at the Harvard Medical School to become a medical doctor.

Francisca Lamini is a Member of the Church of Pentecost Youth Ministry.

The Church of Pentecost Youth Ministry has confirmed that, she is a proud member of The Church of Pentecost, Sogakope Area, Dabala District of the Volta Region, Ghana.

According to the Church, the hardworking and devoted young lady, Francisca Lamini was the President of PENSA at KETASCO.

She also performs different roles in the church and other related church related activities.

Francisca Lamini, while in school, showed more interest in academic works than aspiring for leadership positions. This is not bad because everyone has an aspiration and if yours does not fall into leadership and social activities, you need to reason to be there.

However, in Francisca Lamini’s final year, because of being brought up in a Christian family, she picked up the position of Pentecost Students Association (PENSA) President of Keta SHTS.

She was the School Prefect of Sanity International School Complex, Dabala in 2017/2018 academic year.

Francisca Lamini’s mother is Benedicta Awudi. Her father is Mr. Lamini and a Muslim. He mother is a strong Christian who worship with the Church of Pentecost. Her father is currently out of Ghana. Our sources have confirmed that, Francisca Lamini’s parents are no longer together since her Primary School days.

Francisca Lamini has a siblings called Torfic Lamini (male). The mother gave birth to her and Torfic Lamini as the only children to Mr. Lamini.

In 2021, the usual annual national educational contest in Ghana, the National Science and Maths Quiz came off and witnessed great patronage from the Ghanaian people.

Key among the contestants as many people look out for are girls who defied all odds to make their way into the contest and Francisca Lamini was a member of that great history.

Francisca Lamini became the only female contestant who rose from the lowest stages of the competition to the grand finale where the whole country is always desperate to watch.

In the final, she showed how strong girls can be just like their male counterparts in the educational settings of the country.

She was awarded for being the first female contestant to make it to the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finals in the last 8 years.

In addition, she has awards and gift for being the Most Outstanding Female Contestant, GH¢5,000 from Citi FM boss, Samuel Attah-Mensah, GH¢2,500 from YFM GH¢1,000 from NUGS Secretary for Women Development and many more.
