PIWAK Group President Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti Donates GH₵10,000 to NUTSA
Entrepreneur, philanthropist and the President of PIWAK Group of Companies Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti has donated GH₵10,000 to National Union of Tongu Students and Associates (NUTSA) to boost the Union’s efforts to serve and empower its members.
He presented the donation at the Union’s 18th National Delegates Congress, held at Sogakope Senior High School. The congress brought together delegates, executives and stakeholders from across the country. The National President of the Union, Mr Daniel Eblugbor, received the donation on behalf of the Association.
The donation reflects Dr Mortoti’s commitment to education and to the young people training for leadership in Ghana. It comes as student associations across the country look for support to sustain their programmes. Many of these associations depend largely on dues and on the goodwill of benefactors.
The funds are expected to strengthen NUTSA’s activities, including member welfare, leadership development and the programmes the Union organises throughout the academic year. Union leaders have long stressed that such support helps the association advocate for its members and create opportunities for growth beyond the classroom.
On behalf of the leadership and members, Mr Eblugbor expressed deep gratitude to Dr Mortoti for the gesture. He described it as timely and as evidence of Dr Mortoti’s belief in the potential of the Union and its members. He also pledged that the leadership would use the funds responsibly and for the intended purposes.
A Record of Giving
Beyond his entrepreneurial activities, Dr Mortoti is recognised for his philanthropic contributions and his commitment to community development.
Support for flood victims. After the 2023 Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillage, he donated GH₵200,000 to support flood victims. The money was shared as GH₵1,000 each to 200 affected persons across the three Tongu districts. He also donated relief items valued at over GH₵40,000 to flood victims, giving further support to communities hit by the disaster.
Education. Dr Mortoti spearheaded a library project at Dalive Basic School, helping to improve pupils’ access to educational resources.
Tertiary and student initiatives. He contributed GH₵10,000 towards the 30th Anniversary celebration of VORSAG-UCC and GH₵4,000 in support of VORSAG-UEW.
Livelihoods and local enterprise. He supported 300 Abokobi market women with a total of GH₵300,000, giving them financial assistance to strengthen their businesses and livelihoods.
His latest support for NUTSA adds to this growing record of investment in education, youth development and community welfare.
A Call to Others
Delegates at the congress praised the donation as a model of the kind of partnership between individuals and student bodies that can help strengthen education in Ghana. The Union encouraged other well-meaning individuals, alumni and organisations to follow Dr Mortoti’s example and support its mission.
The 18th National Delegates Congress gave members a platform to review the Union’s progress, deliberate on matters affecting its members and chart a course for the future. NUTSA says it remains committed to promoting the welfare, unity and academic excellence of its members. It also says it welcomes continued collaboration with stakeholders to advance these goals.
