Full details on North Tongu DCE aspirants

Reliable information available to Coverghana.com.gh has disclosed that, a total of eight (8) persons who desire to serve in the capacity of North Tongu District Chief Executive position have been vetted successfully by the Municipal/Metropolitan/District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) Vetting Committee in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho.

The report intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh comprises of some prominent personalities in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) including the incumbent DCE Richard Collins Arku and others.

The individuals vying for the North Tongu DCE’s position were vetted in Ho, today, 22nd May, 2021 by MMDCEs Vetting Committee.

ASPIRANTS AND THEIR BRIEF PROFILE

1. Richard Collins Arku

Mr. Richard Collins Arku is the incumbent North Tongu District Chief Executive. He hails from Volo, a suburb of North Tongu. He was a two-times Parliamentary Candidate for North Tongu Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He lost marginally to the incumbent MP Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

2. Shabanton Moses Dutsrogbe

Mr. Shabanton Moses Dutsrogbe is a native of Mepe in the North Tongu District. He is currently the Volta Regional Research and Election Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He doubles as the Volta Regional Monitoring Officer of Nation Builders Corps (NABCO). He is the immediate past North Tongu NPP Constituency Secretary.

3. Divine Osborn Kwadzo Fenu

Mr. Divine Osborn Kwadzo Fenu hails from the District Capital of North Tongu, Battor. He is a teacher by profession who teaches at Aveyime-Battor Senior High Technical School (ABAST) and currently the North Tongu Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

4. Christopher Kofi Eleblu

Mr. Christopher Kofi Eleblu hails from Juapong, a suburb of North Tongu in the Volta Region. He is a retired accountant, private businessman, a one time Parliamentary candidate and a former disqualified North Tongu NDC parliamentary aspirant in 2016.

5. Emmanuel Hottor

Mr. Emmanuel Hottor is a native of Battor in the North Tongu District. He is a private businessman/tycoon.

4. Hammond Nyaleduadzi

Mr. Hammond Nyaleduadzi comes from Alabo in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region. He is safety officer.

7. Alfred Nukpetsi

Mr. Alfred Nukpetsi comes from Dedukope, suburb of Aveyime-Battor in the North Tongu District. He is a Lecturer at Ada College of Education.

8. Bokor Livingstone

Mr. Bokor Livingstone comes from Mepe in the North Tongu District. He is currently a staff of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho.

OUTCOME KF VETTING RESULT

The 2021 MMDCEs Vetting Committee formed by the New Patriotic Party in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council is yet to publish the qualified applicants vetted.

The individuals appeared before the Committee to be vetted in the Region after they have officially filed to be selected and subsequent appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his second term of office.

SELECTION OF APPLICANTS

Information available suggests that, only three (3) aspirants shall be selected by the Regional MMDCEs Committee and the list shall be forwarded to the headquarters for final selection.

FINAL SELECTION COMMITTEE

According to earlier Communications, a final selection committee shall be constituted, whose duty shall be to vet the three shortlisted Applicants from each constituency/district and make appropriate recommendations to the President

EXPECTED MEMBERS OF THE FINAL MMDCEs SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Final Selection Committee shall be constituted as follows:

a) The 2020 Campaign Manager – Mr. Mac Manu

b) General Secretary – John Boadu

c) Three other persons nominated by the President

Proceedings of the National Selection Committee shall be held at the Jubilee House.

APPOINTMENT BY PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO

After the Final Selection Committee finished it works, the shortlisted list of individuals shall be communicated to the office of the President for appointment.

A BRIEF ABOUT NORTH TONGU DISTRICT

The North Tongu District Assembly was established by a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2081. It was carved out of the then North Tongu District (old) which is now Central Tongu with its capital at Adidome.

The newly created North Tongu District (new) has Battor as its capital. It is located along the Volta River and has majority of its communities interspersed along the River. The District has a total land size of about 1,131.64sqkm representing 6 percent of total land area of the Volta region. The District lies within latitudes 5047’N to 60N and longitude 005’ E to 0045’E and shares boundaries with Central Tongu to the East, Asuogyaman and Lower Manya to the West, to the South is Shai Osudoku and Ningo Prampram and Ho municipal to the North.

The District lies within the tropical savannah grassland zone. The vegetation is dense along the Volta River and along the stream basins. The District currently has four (4) sub-district structures namely Battor, Mepe, Dorfor Area Council and Juapong Town Council.

The District is organized into six (6) traditional areas and the traditional authorities play a major role in fostering the development of the area by supporting the District Assembly in the areas of revenue mobilization and the mobilization of human resources during communal labour. There are various festivals celebrated by the various traditional authorities in the area, which serves as a unifying instrument to mobilize resources for development.

The people of Battor celebrate a festival called Hogbeza in December, Mepe people celebrate Afenorto festival in August, Dorfor people celebrate Ayimagonu festival in November and Volo people celebrate Tugbedzo festival in September.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service 2010 PHC, the population size of North Tongu was 89,777. The Projected Population of the District as at 2017 stands 104,622. The District contributes
4.2 percent of the total population of the Volta region and 0.4 percent of the total population of Ghana.
