‘Gangster’ Hawa Koomson imports ‘thugs’ to assault civilians at EC’s registration centre – NDC alleges

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged the, the Minister of Special Development Initiative Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson has bused thugs to the Electoral Commission’s registration centre to assault civilians.

According to the NDC party leadership, madam Mavis Hawa Koomson brought thugs from Bawku numbering about thirteen (13) to her own constituency thus; Awutu Senya East Constituency and assaulted, brutalized and attacked members of the National Democratic Congress, registrants, sympathizers of NDC and other constituents, burnt three (3) motorbikes in a violence that took place at the Step-to-Christ Polling station of the ongoing voter’s registration exercise.

The National Democratic Congress further disclosed that, the thugs bused from Bawku were led by the first son of Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson known as Ato Koomson to the constituency where the incident happened.

“Madam Mavis Hawa Koomson without any provocation, invaded a voter registration center in her constituency in the company of gun-wielding thugs of the NPP, assaulted NDC party agents, burnt motorcycles belonging to NDC supporters and fired sporadic gunshots thereby endangering the lives of her constituents and disrupting the entire voter registration exercise.”

Addressing the 8th edition of the NDC’s weekly press briefing at the party headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020, the NDC’s Director of Elections Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah noted that, this in not the first incident sponsored by Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise.

“It is worthy to point out, that this incident is just one of several coordinated and unprovoked attacks on our members in the ongoing registration exercise in the Awutu Senya East Constituency by Hawa Koomson and her NPP goons who she has imported from Bawku.” He explained.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed worry over the inability of the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the incidents which were officially reported to them on each day of occurrence.

The party described Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson as a “gangster” appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Minister of Special Development Initiative. The NDC categorically vouched to arrest and prosecute her including all NPP thugs and members who are promoting this lawlessness in the country when they win the 2020 December polls.
