GCB rolls out initiative to plant 7,000 trees

GCB Bank’s “GCB Greens Ghana for Life” initiative is a significant contribution to Ghana’s efforts to mitigate climate change and improve the country’s vegetative cover.

The Bank’s participation in the Green Ghana Project, which is under the auspices of the Government of Ghana, specifically the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and The Forestry Commission, is in line with its environmental agenda. The initiative involves planting 7,000 trees in honor of GCB Bank’s 70th anniversary and to support the Green Ghana Project’s aim to plant 10 million trees.

The tree planting exercise was a collaborative effort between the Board of Directors and Management staff of the Bank, President Nana Akufo-Addo, and thousands of Ghanaians who participated in the national tree planting event at the University of Ghana.

The exercise was replicated across over 100 branches and offices of the Bank by GCB staff nationwide who planted cash crops and ornamental trees.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, a GCB Board member, expressed his delight at the Bank’s contribution towards a national problem, saying that the “GCB Greens Ghana for Life” initiative would see GCB contribute 7,000 trees to support Ghana’s tree population and significantly improve the country’s chances in the fight against climate change, as well as secure a sustainable environment.

GCB Bank’s initiative is a significant step towards promoting sustainable development in Ghana and should serve as an inspiration for other organizations to take similar steps towards mitigating climate change and promoting environmental protection.
