Geno graduated from Miramar High School where he started exhibiting his playing talent as a three-sport athlete, football, basketball, and baseball. He was named the Florida 5A Player of the Year in 2008, after leading his team to the state championship. He attended West Virginia University where he played college football as well.
He became the starting quarterback for the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2010 and quickly built himself as one of the top quarterbacks in college football. He was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 and set multiple school records, as well as the most career touchdown passes.
