GES Director-General resolves power issue at Accra Academy

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah has successfully resolved the power issue at Accra Academy Senior High School. Power has been fully restored to the school, bringing an end to the recent disruption.
Dr. Nkansah confirmed that the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Secretariat, responsible for covering the electricity bills of all 704 second-cycle schools nationwide, has been actively engaging with the power distribution company to settle outstanding payments. As a result, all bills have been paid, ensuring that no schools should have experienced disconnection based on their records.
In an interview with JoyNews, Dr. Nkansah stated, “I have personally addressed this matter with the Managing Director of the Electricity Company, and the school’s power supply has been restored. We expect that the situation experienced yesterday will not reoccur.”
To prevent future power disconnections, the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Free SHS Secretariat have scheduled to hold a meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and establish a reliable payment system that ensures timely settlement of electricity bills.
Dr. Nkansah reassured the public, saying, “Based on the ongoing discussions and arrangements we have in place, we are confident that such incidents will not happen again in the future.”
The resolution of this power issue demonstrates the commitment of the Ghana Education Service to address challenges promptly and ensure a conducive learning environment for students.
