Marking the day, 11th October, 2025 as the International Day of the Girl Child, Ghana Education Service (GES) join the global community to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child under the theme “The Girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.”
“The day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to support the growth, education, and empowerment of every girl in Ghana and beyond. As part of efforts to promote the welfare and dignity of girls, Management of the GES announces the distribution of 6,607,095 sanitary pads to school girls across all 16 regions of the country,” GES stated.
This initiative is aimed at addressing menstrual hygiene challenges and ensuring that no girl misses school during her menstrual period. The intervention is in fulfilment of the Government of Ghana’s promise to provide free sanitary pads to all school girls, from basic to second cycle, on a monthly basis throughout their life in school. It reflects the government’s commitment to improving menstrual hygiene, promoting gender equality in education, and safeguarding the health and confidence of adolescent girls.
The Ghana Education Service assures all school girls of its continuous support and reiterates its dedication to building an education system that is inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of every learner. The Service encourages girls to stay focused on their studies and take full advantage of the opportunities provided to them.
Management of GES extends heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Education for the tireless efforts in operationalising this important life-changing initiative for school girls across the country.
