Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reacted to an alleged introduction of uniform for teachers across the country.

Over the weekend, pictures of some purported GES teachers in a prescribed uniform for work surfaced on social media alleging to be a proposed uniform for teachers under the Ghana Education Service.

This has created some sort of misfeeling among teachers while a section of the general public keep asking questions on the validity of the news.

Facts on alleged teachers proposed uniform revealed

In reacting to the issue, the Ghana Education Service (GES) said, they are one of the largest Government agencies in Ghana.

That, they employ more than half of all Government employees and, if they want to introduce uniforms for teachers they won’t do that through social media and over the weekend.

According to the Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa led GES, in this era of unionized labour GES cannot introduce a uniform for teachers without engaging the teacher unions, adding that, the viral information circulating on social media regarding uniform for teachers is palpable false and must be disregarded.

In a statement, the Service guesses it’s some group of teachers who have decided to have a uniform or it could even be photoshop.

“We may have to look for those in the pictures to first find out if indeed they’re teachers and if they’re what’s their motivation for the uniform.”

GES further explained that, issues relating to who pays, Government or individuals, the fabric, etc. would all have to be discussed.

“Any national project of this kind may have to be announced and possibly launched OFFICIALLY.” findings revealed that, teachers of Tepa Methodist Basic School and Akwasiase Methodist Primary School, all in the Ahafo Ano North District initiated the teacher uniform project. This, according to our sources is not coming from GES.
