GFA fined $15,000 by CAF over fans’ clash during AFCON
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has imposed a fine of $15,000 on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following fan trouble during the Africa Cup of Nations Match 4 game between Ghana and Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
According to the Safety and Security Official’s report, two groups of Ghanaian supporters were involved in a scuffle at half-time in stand N°18, which led to the use of tear gas.
After carefully reviewing all the facts, allegations, legal arguments, and evidence presented during the proceedings, the Disciplinary Board made the decision to impose the fine.
The Ghana Football Association has been given a deadline of 60 days from the date of the decision to pay the imposed fine.
In response to the disciplinary action, the GFA issued a statement urging supporter groups and all Ghanaians present in Côte d’Ivoire to display exemplary behavior within the boundaries of the game.
The GFA expressed its intention to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under whose authority the supporters traveled to the tournament, as well as the leadership of the supporter groups, to prevent any future incidents.
