Ghana Education Service releases 2024/2025 Academic Year Calendar for Basic Schools
Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the 2024/2025 academic year calendar for all Basic Schools in Ghana.
The calendar outlines the key dates and events for the upcoming academic year. It also provides a comprehensive guide for students, teachers, and parents on how to schedule their weeks having holidays among other scheduled activities for all the terms.

2024/2025 Academic Year: First Term Resuming Date
First Term Duration
School will be in session for a total of fifteen (15) weeks.
The resuming date for the First Term in the 2024/2025 academic year as planned is September 10, 2024.
However, take note that there is no Mid-Term Break according to the new academic year calendar.
Public Holidays
The first part of the academic year, First Term has Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day (September 21, 2024).
Special Events
- World Teachers Day to be celebrated on October 5, 2024.
- World Children’s Day to be celebrated on November 20, 2024.
Vacation Date: First Term vacation date
The First Term of the 2024/2025 academic year will end on December 20, 2024.
Second Term Duration (In school)
School will be in session for a total of fifteen (15) weeks.
The resuming date for the First Term in the 2024/2025 academic year as planned is January 8, 2024.
Take note: The term has no Mid-Term Break.
Public Holidays
The second part of the academic year, Second Term has a list of Public Holidays.
– Good Friday (April 18, 2025), Easter Monday (April 21, 2025)
Special Celebration
– March Independence Celebration (March 6-7, 2025).
Vacation Date: First Term Vacation Date
The Second Term of the 2024/2025 academic year will end on April 17, 2025.
The vacation starts from April 18, 2025 through to May 5, 2025.
Third Term Duration
School will be in session for a total of twelve (12) weeks.
The resuming date for the Third Term in the 2024/2025 academic year is May 6, 2025.
Take note: There is no Mid-Term Break according to the new academic year calendar.
Public Holidays
The third part of the academic year, Third Term has Public Holidays.
They are as follows:
- African Union Day – 1st May (2025) (May 25, 2025)
- Eid-ul-Adha (June 7, 2025)
Third Term Vacation Date
End-of-Term Vacation Date: July 24, 2025.
Vacation Period: 32 days starting from July 24, 2025 to September 7, 2025)
Next Academic Year: 2025/2026 Academic Year
Reopening Date: September 8, 2025
