Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants who wish to be considered for admission into the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) for the 2021/2022 Academic year to pursue any of the following courses:

A. FACULTY OF JOURNALISM AND MEDIA STUDIES

B. A. IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES [JOURNALISM OPTION]

B. FACULTY OF PUBLIC RELATIONS, ADVERTISING & MARKETING

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

SSSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English, Mathematics and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better.

WASSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English, Mathematics and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better

GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS

Applicants must possess a General Certificate of Examinations (GCE) ‘A’ Level Grade E or better in three (3) subjects, at least, one of which should be Grade D or better Credit passes i.e. Grade 6 or better in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level (‘O” Level) subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject, for non-science students.

REGULAR, EVENING & WEEKEND SESSIONS

SSSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess six (6) passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics. For areas of specialisation, three (3) of the passes must be in relevant subjects.

WASSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess six (6) passes (A1-C6) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics and must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialisation.

MATURE STUDENTS

Persons wishing to enter the Ghana Institute of Journalism as Mature Students must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.

Applicants will be considered for admission on passing a special entrance examination conducted by the Institute and an interview.

UCC opens admission for Diploma teachers to run 3-Semester Bachelor of Education Programme

NOTE: Applicants will be selected based on a competitive cut-off point for the year. Candidates awaiting results are eligible to apply.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

i. A GIJ Diploma with a final CGPA of 3.0 and above or an equivalent Diploma from an accredited communications’ training institution with a CGPA of 3.5 and above or with an average of Grade B; However, an applicant with a GIJ Diploma with a final CGPA between 2.50-2.99 or an equivalent Diploma from an accredited communications training institution could be considered for the fee-paying option.

ii. Diploma holders with Final Grade Point Average of 3.00 from the following disciplines. Archival Studies, Public Administration, Social Administration, Education and Management Studies are eligible to apply.

NIA and GRA Centres where you can be assisted to replace TIN with Ghana Card

iii. Higher National Diploma (HND) holders with a minimum of 2nd Class (Lower Division) in the following: Marketing, Information Technology, Secretaryship and Management Studies as well as Social Science and Humanities related programme not mentioned here are also eligible to apply.

iv. Final Year Diploma students are eligible to apply as awaiting results applicants. (Certificates and Transcripts should, however, be provided to complete the application process)

 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students who hold equivalent qualifications are eligible to apply for any of the programmes. However, applicants should have their certificates and/or qualifications verified by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) before they can be admitted. Additionally, applicants from Non-English speaking countries must meet a minimum level of English Language proficiency.

1. An applicant must pay the relevant application fee at any Fidelity Bank branch by providing applicant’s name and telephone number.

2. You will be provided with your application number/ transaction ID at the bank that will grant you access to the Online Admission Portal.

3. Applicant should then proceed to the Online Admission Portal:
http://registration.gij.edu.gh/Apply/Start to begin the application process.

4. Once the process has been completed, applicant must print out a copy of the completed application form together with one passport photograph and supporting documents to the address below.

POST-GRADUATE ADMISSIONS FOR THE 2020/2021 ACADEMIC YEAR

The School of Graduate Studies and Research (SoGSaR) announces for the information of the general public that applications are open for admission of prospective applicants to the following programmes:

REGULAR PROGRAMMES

i. MASTER OF ARTS IN JOURNALISM

ii. MASTER OF ARTS IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

iii. MASTER OF ARTS IN MEDIA MANAGEMENT

iv. MASTER OF ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION

These are 15 months intensive programmes based on the semester system. Lectures start at 3.00 p.m. each day.

WEEKEND PROGRAMMES (FRIDAY AND SATURDAY)

A. MASTER OF ARTS IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

B. MASTER OF ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION

These are 15 months intensive programmes based on the semester system with lectures on Friday at 3.00pm and Saturday at 7.30 am.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

i. A Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism or any accredited/recognized University, with at least Second Class Lower Division.

Or

A Bachelor’s degree in other disciplines from any reputable University with at least Second Class Lower Division.

ii. Passing an Entrance Examination and Selection Interview.

NOTE: Applicants from Non-English-speaking countries must also have a minimum level of English Language Proficiency in the following: GSCE/O LEVEL, IELTS and TOEFL.

The application fee is GH¢300.00 for Ghanaian applicants and US$ 150.00 for applicants outside
Ghana and Non-Ghanaian applicants.
