As part of extending the Free Senior High School (FSHS), the government of Ghana, GES, and the Ministry of Education have initiated a digitized project dubbed, the Ghana Smart School Project (GSSP). The objective is to empower Ghanaian students to learn the smart way with limitless boundaries.

What is the rationale behind the Ghana Smart School Project?

The Ghana Smart School Project is an extension of the government’s free SHS project being digitalised. The objective is to empower Ghanaian students to learn the smart way with limitless boundaries.

What are the Specifications of the GSSP tablet (Battery Life, Software version, etc)?

The tablet has some specifications. They are as follows:

  1. Screen size – 10.1″ inch
  2. RAM – 4GB
  3. Storage – 128GB
  4. Battery capacity – 3.7V/8000mAH lasting 7-8hrs
  5. Solar chargeable Power bank
  6. Wifi and SIM card supported
  7. Android 12 operating system
  8. Customised LMS
  9. etc

What is the Sustainability and Durability of the GSSP Tablet?

The tablet has passed all quality tests (durability test, stress test, etc) comparable to every global brand. Depending on the user, the SM1 tablet can outlive the average lifespan of most tech products.

What is the Distribution Plan for the GSSP tablet?

The Distribution is in Phases. Tablets would be delivered to schools through GES/TVET Regional Stores. The entire distribution process is automated.

Students’ enrolment data approved by the FSHS secretariat will be preloaded into the distribution app. Every device serial number is then assigned to a specific student. By this, they will know the user of every device.

What are the learning contents on the GSSP tablet?

Each tablet has a pre-installed Learning Mgt System (LMS). The platform is available both online and offline. All currently approved content by NaCCA has been uploaded on the platform.

Currently, they have content from KG to SHS on the platform (i.e. Video, PDF, WAEC revision questions, etc.). Additional content would be uploaded to meet the changing needs of students in line with policy direction.

Is the GSSP tablet here to replace textbooks?

Yes. Gradually, it will replace textbooks. This would be a policy decision to replace textbooks by the Ghana Education Service and MOE.
