Ghana spent GHS 19.3 Million on AFCON qualifiers -Ablakwa Reveals
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has disclosed that the Ghanaian government has expended GH¢ 19,262,766.35 (equivalent to $1.5 million) during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire.
Official documents presented by the Member of Parliament indicate that Ghana’s home and away matches against Angola incurred a total cost of GH¢ 7,452,437.71.
Furthermore, the two games played against Madagascar amounted to GH¢ 8,395,434.13 in expenses.

The matches against the Central African Republic, which Ghana participated in, resulted in the country spending up to GH¢ 3,414,894.51.
Ghana secured qualification for the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a crucial 83rd-minute goal by Ernest Nuamah against the Central African Republic on the final day of qualifiers.
Although the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not confirmed the exact amount Ghana will earn from participating in the group stage, quarter-finalists are slated to receive a prize money of $1,300,000.
In 2022, Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, informed Parliament that the country incurred expenses of $2,500,000 during a campaign that concluded in the group stage.

Ghana’s elimination from the tournament was confirmed on Tuesday with Cameroon’s 3-2 victory over Gambia. The Black Stars amassed only two points from their three group games in Ivory Coast.
Had Ghana progressed to the knockout stage, the team would have received a qualification bonus of $30,000.
