Ghana’s FDA Elevated to “Regulatory Maturity Level 3” by WHO making it No.2 in Africa
The Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central has announced on Thursday, May 14, 2020 that the World Health Organisation has officially upgraded the country’s FDA to a new status he referred to as Regulatory Maturity Level 3
According to Hon. Agyamang Manu, Ghana becomes the second country in the W.H.O’s Africa regime to attain such a status which is the second-highest when dealing in the four-tiered WHO classification of national medicines regulatory Systems.
This level he stated in his writeup indicates that Ghana’s system is well functioning well and integrates all required elements to guarantee its stable performance.
In further elaboration, the minister made it known that, WHO believes that Ghana’s achievement will serve as a catalyst for other countries in Africa to invest in regulatory system strengthening to ensure availability and access to quality assured, Safe, effective and affordable medical product to their populations.

FDA attains Regulatory Maturity Level 3
The world Health Organisation has officially announced the achievement of the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana to the Regulatory Maturity Level 3.
Ghana becomes the second country in the WHO African Regim to attain regulatory system “maturity Level 3”, the second-highest in the four-tiered WHO classification of national medicines regulatory Systems.
This level indicates that Ghana’s system is well functing and integrates all required elements to guarantee its stable performance.
This is milestone achievement which is the result of investment by Government of Ghana in strengthening regulatory system that is critical to ensure that when people seek treatment, they receive effective medication and are safe from harm.
WHO believes that this achievement will further Catalyse other countries in Africa to invest in regulatory system strengthening to ensure availability and access to quality assured, Safe, effective and affordable medical product to their populations.
