GNAT to present policy proposals to political parties ahead of December elections

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is preparing to unveil its policy proposals aimed at guiding political parties in shaping their manifestos for the upcoming general elections.

The objective is to ensure that the concerns and needs of GNAT members are effectively incorporated into the agendas of political parties.

In an interview on Monday, February 19, 2924, Thomas Musah, the General Secretary of GNAT, emphasized that the association is taking a proactive approach by presenting its policy recommendations to political parties, departing from its traditional reactive stance.

“We have assembled a team that is currently working on a policy document. This time, we want to move away from the reactionary approach of responding to government officials’ statements. Instead, we want to provide them with our own proposals to integrate into their manifestos,” he explained.

Mr. Musah highlighted that GNAT’s decision to take the lead in formulating policy proposals demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its members. By directly influencing the content of political party manifestos, GNAT aims to ensure that the interests of educators are properly prioritized and addressed.

“The power lies with the people. Political leaders are there for the benefit of the people. In order to protect the welfare of our members, we are developing a comprehensive set of documents. This way, when it comes to holding them accountable, we can refer to the demands we made on them,” he added.

Regarding the timeline for releasing the policy document, the GNAT General Secretary assured that it would be made available by the end of the week.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we are confident that we will be able to engage with the political parties and communicate our proposals to them by the close of this week,” he stated.
