Government has plans to upgrade infrastructure of all Colleges of Education – Dr. Letsa

The Volta Regional Minister Dr. Achibald Yao Letsa has hinted that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government through the Ministry of Education had a plan towards upgrading the infrastructure of all Colleges of Education in order to give them a befitting status.

Dr. Letsa disclosed this in a meeting with the Principal of Peki College of Education, Dr. Bonney Appah Ebenezer and his team as they called on him to present a letter on the need for improvement on the internal roads of the College.

With regard to the improvement on the internal roads of the Peki College of Education, the Regional Minister requested that the Acting Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority visit the College and present a report on the roads which shall be forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Accra for the necessary actions to be taken.

Peki College of Education is one among many Colleges in the Volta Region facing infrastructure challenges. The College needs urgent infrastructure development to meet the status of tertiary institution like other Universities in Ghana.

It’s obvious that, the Forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education in the country need a befitting infrastructure status in order to provide the current required teaching and learning environment for students and lecturers.

Many College managements including the leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) among others have been advocating for an upgrade in the various Colleges of Education across the country under the current Bechellor of Degree Programme introduced into the Colleges but have not seen any improvement since.

In the midst of this nationwide requests, the Volta Regional Minister Dr. Achibald Yao Letsa has made public the government’s plans to upgrade the infrastructure status of the Colleges of Education.

The Regional Minister also assured the Principal and his management to honour their invitation to the Congregation of the College slated for Friday, 21st May 2021.
