Government has planted 3.7 million seedlings to support livelihoods of Ghanaians – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says, his New Patriotic Party government has so far planted over 3.7 million seedlings to support livelihoods of Ghanaians.

According to the President, under the National Afforestation Programme, 3.7 Million seedlings including Cassia, Cedrela, Emire, Eucalyptus, Gmelina, Kokrodua, Mahogany, Ofram, Teak and Wawa species have been planted.

The President also disclosed that, his government is planting over 1.7 Million shea trees in the five northern regions in a bid to mitigate the effects of climate change as well as improve the shea value chain.

Under the Forest Investment Programme which seeks to provide alternative livelihoods and reduce dependency on forest resources, 700 beneficiaries were trained and supported with initial startup kits, in areas of seedling production, beekeeping, mushroom production and soap making.

Speaking at AICC, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said, the motive of the “Green Ghana Initiative” is to find an all hands action towards the saving the dying forest resources, active plan climate change in the regions of deflection, recruiting citizens into planting of tress including related opportunities as well.

He also addressed issues on challenges facing the Forest Ministry and called on more hands in driving away the menace.

The Member of Parliament (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor appreciated the support given by the government towards the launching of GREEN GHANA DAY, EDITION 2022.
