Government should state reasons for the economy’s improvement

The one-time Finance Minister, Seth Terkper wants the Government of Ghana to explain sudden improvement of the economy to Ghanaians.

Seth Terkper at the grounds of NDC’s 10th National Congress held at the Accra Sports Stadium made it known to reporters that the government must come out and brief the general populace on how the economy is getting stronger now.

According to the former Finance Minister, myriad of blames have been apportioned to the storm that the Akufo-Addo-led government is facing from external factors. The Russia and Ukraine war was no exception. It was tagged as the main reason told by the government months ago for the economic crisis Ghana is facing.

“The signs are looking good but let us support it with fact… When it so going bad it is (a) global situation but when it is going well it is the government.”

He said, since figures are indicating that the economy is recovering, the government should brief Ghanaians on the improvements and accord the credits accordingly.

Ghanaians need the brief for decision-making to move swiftly in with their plans.

For days now, the Cedi is rocking shoulder with the major trading currency, the US dollar. As of Thursday, 15th December 2022 per the Bank of Ghana’s statistics, the Cedi was buying at gh¢7.9975 to a dollar and selling at gh¢8.0056 to a dollar.

Based on the improvement of the Cedi, petroleum products scaled down in price and public transport operators are demanding fuel reduction as well.
