President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Government through the Ministry of Finance headed by Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister suspends granting approval for post retirement extension contract appointments for public sector workers.
This is contained in a letter signed by the Deputy Finance Minister Hon. Abena-Osei Asare, to Heads of all other ministries, departments, agencies, MDAs and Metropolitans as well as Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Government for the suspension of post retirement contract appointment approvals.
The letter was leaked after President Akufo-Addo acted contrary to his own directives by approving the Ministry of Education’s request for the post retirement extension contract for the Deputy Director-General (Management Service) of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Anthony Boateng.
The Finance Ministry made this directive based on the 2022 Budget and Economic Policy which has been submitted and approved by parliament for use and as such certain changes cannot be made including these post retirement grants.
The release stated emphatically that “ Government has, with immediate effect, suspended the granting of approval for post-retirement appointment contracts, except in the cases where the skills of the retiring officer are in short supply and unavoidably needed.”
The Ministry for Finance urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to treat this information as urgent.
