Grants for Tema Motorway Interchange were secured by Akufo-Addo – Roads Minister discloses

The construction of the Tema Motorway Interchange project among many has unfolded unquenchable debate among members of Ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) among many.

The two political parties are seriously debating over the ownership of the project, and who should receive credit for the $56 million Japanese government founded project.

The President, during his speech to officially commission the project accused former president John Dramani Mahama saying his infrastructural development projects are fantasy and exist only in the NDC’s Green Book.

In providing the roadmap on the project, the Minister for Roads and Highways Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta has disclosed that, he represented President Akufo-Addo in Japan for more than seven (7) consecutive times on plans towards the construction of the Tema Motorway Interchange project.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo’s government secured three different grants for the construction of the project from the Japanese government which was signed in 2017.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian populace including IMANI Africa founding President Mr. Franklin Cudjoe has fired both NDC and NPP saying “Tema interchange: why is there a struggle over political ownership of a road financed by a grant from the Japanese? Is this what Ghana Beyond Aid means? By the way, it was Mahama that negotiated the grant for the road and Nana Addo built it. When you build with your own money, you can fight over it. Smh.”
