Ho Aviation Academy finally set to take off in October 2025 – Volta Regional Minister discloses
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu has disclosed that the Ho Aviation Academy is finally set to take off in the next eight (8) months (October 2025).
Hon. Gunu stated “Great news for the people of the Volta Region and Ghana’s Aviation Industry. The much-anticipated Ho Aviation Academy is finally set to take off in the next eight months.”
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025 the Volta Regional Minister joined a high-profile delegation, including Togbe Afede XIV Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, and other key stakeholders, to designate the location for this landmark project at the Ho Airport.
The said “academy will include a pilot training school, an aircraft maintenance facility, and other aviation-related services, creating a gateway to job opportunities, tourism growth, and economic transformation for the Region and beyond,” Hon. Gunu listed.
Speaking during the visit, he emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, where he stated, “Togbe Afede XIV is a great asset to Ghana, and I admire the partnership between him and Ghana Airports. This initiative is a gateway for us as a nation. A pilot training school will boost tourism, create jobs, and positively impact other sectors. Whatever needs to be done must be done now.”
Land acquisition payment has already been made, and the commitment to this project is stronger than ever.
Togbe Afede XIV further reaffirmed his vision, highlighting that this plan dates back to 2019, and now is “God’s own time” to bring it to reality.
The academy’s development will unfold in three phases:
- Pilot training school
- Cabin crew and technician training school
- Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility
Mrs. Opare of GACL also assured that Regional Airports must be self-sustaining, and this academy is a step in that direction. With global demand for aviation professionals increasing, Ghana is well-positioned to become a key player in training pilots and aircraft technicians for the entire continent.
“With strong stakeholder support and renewed commitment, this project will elevate Ghana’s aviation industry and unlock great opportunities for our people,” Hon. Gunu called for support to materialize President Mahama’s Ho Aviation Academy dream.
“The time is now. Let’s make it happen!”,, he added.
