Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has commissioned a well-equipped medical laboratory worth over GH¢220,000.00 in the South Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region.

The medical facility was commissioned on Monday, 10th October, 2022 at the premises of the Dabala Health Centre in a short but colourful ceremony, which saw in attendance, chiefs, opinion leaders, health workers, community members among many.

The newly commissioned medical facility which officially began operation today has the following apartments;

1. Laboratory
2. Changing room for laboratory technicians
3. Ultrasound room
4. Waiting area
5. Washroom

Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome also furnished the medical laboratory with equipment and materials such as;

• Waiting Steel Chairs (Stainless)
• Air conditioners and accessories
• Examination Couch Beds (Large Size Stainless)
• Printer and accessories
• Desktop computer,

• 2 Swivel Chairs (Std)
• Fridge
• Two microscope stools
• Two microscopes
• Tables and chairs
• Centrifuge

• Laboratory scale
• Ultrasound machine
• Heat boilar
• Glucometer
• Hemoglobinometer
• Syphilis test strip
• Hepatitis B test strip
• Hepatitis C virus test strip
• Reagents and test tubes
• 4 set of metallic chairs

In handing over the project to the South Tongu District Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Madam Mavis Agumeh, the MP said, the major purpose of the medical laboratory is to augment healthcare delivery at the Dabala Health Centre.

Mr. Woyome explained that, the medical laboratory project is part of his commitments in addressing challenges at the health sectors in the district, to improve on the existing health care delivery, and to as much as possible decentralize services to some of the facilities at the primary level, thereby reducing the high traffic and pressure on the Sogakope District Hospital and as well as the Richard Novati Comboni Hospital.

According to him, the project was embarked on to ensure that, health facilities in the district have adequate medical laboratory at least in many of the facilities, and one of them is the Dabala Health Centre.

Speaking further, the MP also disclosed that, there are plans to construct similar medical laboratory at Kpotame, Dordoekope and Asidowui as a way of providing smooth and effective healthcare delivery to the people in those areas and its environs and to also pay glory tribute to Rev. Pastor Enoch Nyador – Director of Fellowship of Association of Medical Evangelism (FAME) who built a very befitting and modern clinic at Apklale with laboratory services and several facilities serving the needs of the people from Agbeve, Tsatsukope, Amudzinu down to Dzebetato, Tadzie etc.

Giving a background on the project, the South Tongu District Health Director, madam Mavis Agumeh explained that, the building of the centre was initially started by the Dabala Community Members led by the late Mr. Ephraim K. Dzinyela, the Dabala Health Management Committee Chairman over 10 years ago.

According to her, a lot of efforts were put into raising the building but due to lack of finance, the project got stalled along the way.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome quickly intervened, and completed the medical laboratory and also furnished it with quality and expensive laboratory equipment and other materials worth over GH¢220,000.00

According to the District Health Director, the medical laboratory will serve about 14 communities including Dabala, Dabala Junction, Agordome, Dalive, Tosukpo, Torzikpota, Agbogbla, Bludo, Bekpo, Adutor, Gonu, Avuto, Akutukope, Hawui, Gamenu, Akalove, Agorta, Adudokpo, Sukladzi, Lolito and its environs.

She said, it’s a great privilege for her and the South Tongu Heath Directorate to witness the handing over of this beautiful and great asset of Diagnostic Centre to the Dabala Health Centre.

Mavis Agumeh indicated that, the project, which was completed and well-equipped by the MP has been one of the biggest dreams of the Dabala Township and the District Health Directorate as a whole.

“We are, however, privileged for the intervention of the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome to get to what we are witnessing today” Mavis Agumeh said.

Earlier in January 2021, Hon. Woyome donated some essential health materials and equipment worth over GH₵100,000.00 to the Dabala Health Centre, a primary health facility in the suburb of Sogakope.

On 24th April, 2022, the MP also donated medical equipment and consumables to the Adutor Health Centre worth GH¢30,000.00.

He also undertook rehabilitation exercise at the following facilities; Adutor Health Centre, Agbakope Health Centre, CHPs Compound and Nurses Quarters, Dabala Health Centre, Kpotame Health Centre, Dordoekope H/C, Dorkploame CHPs, Gamenu CHPs, Tefle CHPs.

The MP also supported the constructed of medical store at the Health Directorate.

The following are some of the new CHPs constructed during his regime; Gonu-Agbokope CHPs, Agbogbla, Tosukpo among others.
