The General Secretary of the largest opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has in an interview monitored by Coverghana.com.gh said, it is totally needless to attend the Electoral Commission of Ghana’s dictatorship Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
According to the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the EC has violated the coronavirus protocols set out by World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ghana Health Service to help combat the disease.
Mr. Johnson Asiedu added that, the IPAC’s mandate is to discuss and help resolve challenges between the Electoral Commission (EC) and political parties for better consensus to be reached. According to him, IPAC meetings are not supposed to serve as a means of communicating information as the EC did. In view of that, they can’t waste their time on the failed and biased system of EC.
He added that, if the EC has decided to change the mandate of IPAC from discussing trivial issues leading to a consensus to just a mean of passing on information, then they can equally use any other means to disseminate their cooked, unscrupulous and unfruitful agenda, since their presence may not change anything.
The untouchable General Secretary of the NDC has unequivocally stated that, the EC’s IPAC meeting held today will not make any changes on the NDC’s decision not to compile a new voter’s register.

Earlier in the day, the largest opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has boycotted the final Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to brief political parties on EC’s plans to compile new voter’s register ahead of the December 2020 polls.
Information gathered by us, according to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggest that, the electoral commission has failed to follow due diligence to conduct a successful meeting.
In addition the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has noted that, Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) is a body set aside to intervene on issues between political parties and the Electoral Commission for a successful consensus. The situation where IPAC meeting will be used to disseminate information to them violate its mandates hence cannot attend the meeting.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana under Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commissioner has issued a statement to political parties inviting them to attend Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
In a sample letter addressed to the General Secretary of the United Progressive Party (UPA) signed by the Deputy Chairman of the Commission of Corporate Service Dr. Bossman Eric Asare for the Chairperson, stated that the meeting well be held on Wednesday, 27th May, 2020 at exactly 2:00pm.
The meeting which is scheduled to take place at IPAC Room, Electoral Commission will be centered on updates of the 2020 Registration Exercise toward the December 7, 2020 general Elections.
According to the letter, in order not to defy President Akufo-Addo’s directives on social gathering of not exceeding twenty-Five (25) persons, the meeting will be divided into two groups. In view of this, each political party is expected to present only one (1) person to represent their party. Find attached, copy of the letter.
