Jeremy Allen White is an actor from the United States. He is best recognized for his roles as Lip Gallagher in Showtime’s comedy-drama Shameless and chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in Hulu’s comedy-drama The Bear.

Jeremy Allen White was born on February 17, 1991, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, to parents Eloise Zeigler and Richard White. He grew up in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn.His mother was born in North Carolina. He was a dancer in elementary school, doing ballet, jazz, and tap. At the age of 13, he chose to pursue acting after enrolling in a new middle school dance program. He went to the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen district.

White made his acting debut in 2006, first in the film Beautiful Ohio and subsequently in the television series Conviction. On the Showtime series Shameless, he made his breakthrough as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher in 2011. In 2018, he also appeared in Homecoming.

White was cast as the lead in the Hulu series The Bear in 2022. He plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a troubled but brilliant New York chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to restore his deceased brother’s faltering restaurant. He attended training at the Institute of Culinary Education with his co-star Ayo Edebiri to prepare for the part.

He received a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in the role.
