John Mahama promises to revamp Tema Oil Refinery through joint private-public partnership if elected

The Former President and 2024 flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has promised to revamp the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) through a joint private-public partnership if elected as president at the forthcoming 2024 General Elections.
In a public post, Mr. Mahama shared his words of contribution from a meeting with players in the downstream petroleum sector among others.
“I had the privilege of meeting with players in the downstream petroleum sector, including the Association of Oil Marketing Companies, Chamber of Bulk Oil Distribution, Tanker Drivers Union, Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana, Institute of Energy Security, and other petroleum service providers. We discussed the current state of the petroleum and petroleum-related sector and the way forward.”

“I emphasised my commitment to revamping the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) through a joint private-public partnership if elected as president. Our problems with running the refinery stem from it being a state-owned enterprise, and I am open to a private partnership in revitalising TOR.”
“I believe the refinery needs significant attention, and a transparent process for private participation is crucial in bringing the refinery back into operation and running it efficiently.
“I am dedicated to building the Ghana we all want, and that includes addressing the challenges and opportunities in the downstream petroleum sector,” John Mahama’s words of dedication to address the petroleum sector challenges.
