John Mahama reacts to IMANI’s Presidential Debate Challenge; Vows to defeat Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accepted to debate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in IMANI Africa’s presidential debate challenge adding he will defeat him massively.
In a statement copied to the front deck of Coverghana.com.gh, the founding president of the Think Tank IMANI Africa Mr. Franklin Cudjoe announced that, his outfit has just received a confirmation note electronically from the former President’s office to actively participate in his presidential debate challenge ahead of the December 2020 polls.
Mr. Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa on 15th September, 2020 send an invitation to the Leader and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. John Dramani Mahama to avail himself for a presidential debate between him and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before the controversial December 2020 polls. Responding to IMANI’s invitation, the Political Aide and Head of Administration at the Office of the former president Callistus Mahama, Ph.D said, H.E John Mahama has stated publicly, his willingness, to debate H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on any platform and at any time.

According to the statement, John Dramani Mahama believes that not only will the presidential debate enhance our democracy, but also give voters a better opportunity to make informed decisions in the December 2020 general elections.
“Anything short of this, will defeat the intended purpose. Kindly accept the assurances of H.E John Mahama’s highest regards” He said.
Let’s have an open debate on infrastructural projects – Mahama challenges Akufo-Addo
BACKGROUND
Former President John Dramani Mahama in August 2020 has challenged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for an open Presidential debate on infrastructural development of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party governments.
The Leader and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said this while interacting with the Chiefs and Elders of Ho West Traditional Council in the Volta Region on Thursday, 20th August, 2020 on his four days campaign tour to Oti and Volta Regions.
Mr. Mahama further said, he is ever ready to set another record by debating President Nana Addo on infrastructural projects of each governments for Ghanaians to judge for themselves which party performed better than the other.
John Dramani Mahama was reacting to the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after his government’s Virtual Town Hall and Results Fair Meeting held on Tuesday, 18th August, 2020 at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) in Accra to score president Akufo-Addo’s government infrastructural projects under the year of review.
The Vice President in the course of his presentation listed a tall list of infrastructural projects under the NPP government and said, their investment in infrastructure for three and a half years suppresses that of the NDC in eight (8) years.
The pronouncement by the Vice president has generated an “infrastructural projects debate” between the members of the NPP and the NDC.

The former president John Dramani Mahama who was reacting to that said, he will love to engage in a face-to-face infrastructural debate with President Akufo-Addo.
The president in a statement said;” I am willing to present myself for a debate with president Akufo-Addo any day, any time, anywhere”
John Dramani Mahama recounted what he went through in run up to the 2016 December polls and said, “In 2016, when l was talking about the value of infrastructure, my friends on the other side said, we don’t eat infrastructure, we don’t eat roads. Today, l can see a scramble to grab any infrastructure and tout it as an achievement”

He further added that, “It’s easy to settle the issues of infrastructure. After all, the President said, it’s going to be an election of track records; comparing his track records to my track records. We can settle it easily. Let us have a debate between the two of us. The two presidents. Let Nana Akufo-Addo come and sit down. Let me sit down and let us debate our records”
