John Patrick McEnroe Jr. is a former professional tennis player from the United States. He was recognized for his shot-making and volleying abilities, rivalries with Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors, and his combative on-court demeanor, which frequently got him in conflict with umpires and tennis officials.
McEnroe is the only male tennis player to have held the world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles at the same time. Only one other male player, Stefan Edberg, has ever been ranked first in both categories, albeit at different times.
