JUST IN: Coalition of concerned teachers sacks acting President King Ali Awudu

The Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT-GH) has removed King Ali Awudu from his position as acting President according to a press statement issued on December 22, 2021, in which the Union cited a series of concerns including unresolved court cases and allegations of financial misappropriation, under Awudu’s leadership.

In July 2020, reports of financial misappropriation within the CCT-GH, particularly regarding the CCT fund were noted.

Concerning the above reports, the national organizer who had access to some of the accounts requested an audit of the books, but the acting president, King Ali Awudu, rejected the demand.

Subsequently, a founding member, Mr. Theophilus Dorkutcho, submitted several petitions to the acting president, seeking accountability for the CCT-GH’s financial records and urging adherence to the union’s constitution. Unfortunately, these requests were ignored leading Mr. Dorkutcho to seek legal redress.

The Union, the CCT Fund, Mr. Samuel Antwi (chairman of the CCT Fund), and the nine (9) national officers were served individually and collectively with a court suit (FT/0011/2021) at the Financial and Economic Crime Court Division 1 of the Accra High Court. Mr. Dickson Tweneboah Koduah, the solicitor of the CCT-GH, is defending King Ali Awudu, the other six national officers, the CCT-GH, the CCT Fund, and Mr. Samuel Antwi.

During one of the court proceedings, the union’s acting vice president, Mr. Enoch Abrokwah Asante, attempted to settle the matter out of court but failed due to King Ali Awudu’s steadfast position.

Another issue raised pertains to the failure of King Ali Awudu to deliver end-of-year packages such as notepads, diaries, and leather files to members since 2018, despite full payment being made. This failure has raised concerns among union members.

Furthermore, a report was filed with the Greater Accra regional police command by concerned individuals, including Mr. Theophilus Dorkutcho, Mr. Adome Daniel Kofi, and Mr. Godfred Sepenu, regarding the procurement of end-of-year packages.

As a result, King Ali Awudu, Awulley Adokwei (the procurement Chairman of CCT-GH), Mr. Arko Forson Herbert (the general secretary of CCT-GH), and Mr. Vincent Bubunu (the contractor) were arrested by the Greater Accra regional police. Mr. Dickson Tweneboah Koduah, the lawyer for the CCT-GH, is defending King Ali Awudu, Awulley Adokwei Ayikwei, and Arko Herbert Forson in this criminal case.

The statement revealed again that King Ali Awudu was allegedly heard in a recorded conversation proudly claiming involvement in the murder of his former headmaster at Barekese Senior High Secondary School.

The matter has been reported to the Ashanti regional police by concerned individuals including Mr. Norbert Gborgbortsi and family members of the deceased headmaster. The case is currently under investigation and has been referred to the Attorney General’s office.

In addition to these issues, King Ali Awudu has been accused of suspending and sacking members and officers without addressing their concerns adequately. The Union questions his leadership, claiming that he is not a unifier but rather a divisive, arrogant, disrespectful, and benevolent dictator.

The statement concludes by stating that the Union can no longer work with King Ali Awudu as the acting president, urging all stakeholders and the public to cease any direct or indirect dealings with him.
