Kwamikrom: The centre of garbage in the Biakoye District – A concerned citizen writes

Bowiri Kwamikrom is a community at Biakoye District of Oti Region. The inhabitants are people of different languages. This is a community where farming and fishing are their utmost priority. In terms of Education, Kwamikrom circuit tops all other circuits in the districts at Biakoye.

But the environmental hygienic condition of the community is very poor. The waste dump of the community is just opposite the largest JHS known as TOTA D/A A,B&C JHS, Kwamikrom. This poses health hazard to both students and teachers of the school, which is my greatest concern.

Not only that but the only source of water “River Kunso” for the community has always been polluted by the refuse dump when there is a downpour of rain. The rain then sweep all the dirt from the refuse dump into the water body and the folks alongside the River Kunso would go and fetch it for domestic use. Those who were at the New Town of the community are the mostly affected because whenever the rain sweeps the dirt into the water body, it goes to their direction.

I plead that the Chief, Assemblymen and others in authority should rise on their toes to divert or relocate a new site for refuse dump in Bowiri Kwamikrom.

As people drink this water in these era of Covid 19, would increase the rate at which a disease or virus can spread among them.
Take the garbage far from River Kunso.
Kwamikrom: Our health is Our Life.
