Mike Pence Biography, Age, Parents, Wife, Children, Net Worth
Michael Richard Pence is an American politician who served as the 48th Vice President of the United States under Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021. He previously served as the 50th governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017, as well as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013.
Before joining private practice, Pence attended Hanover College and subsequently the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He was a Republican radio and television talk show host from 1994 to 1999 after losing two House bids in 1988 and 1990. Pence was elected to the House in 2000 and represented Indiana’s 2nd district from 2001 to 2003, as well as the 6th district from 2003 to 2013. From 2005 to 2007, he presided over the Republican Study Committee, and from 2009 to 2011, he presided over the House Republican Conference. He also narrowly won the 2012 Indiana governor race.
Pence initiated the largest tax cut in Indiana history as governor and advocated for increased support for private education projects. He signed abortion-restricting legislation, including one that prohibited abortions based on the fetus’s race, gender, or disability. Pence faced opposition from moderate members of his party, the business sector, and LGBT organizations after signing the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Pence approved revisions to the law to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and other characteristics in response to the bill’s reaction. He then became Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate, and he went on to win the 2016 presidential election.
As vice president, Pence presided over the National Space Council, which was reestablished in 2017, as well as the White House Coronavirus Task Force, which was formed in early 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pence and Trump lost their re-election bids in the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, despite Trump’s campaign refusing to concede, making false or unfounded charges of election fraud, and filing numerous unsuccessful lawsuits in multiple states.
Despite Trump’s calls to reverse the election results and the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, Pence certified the Biden-Harris ticket as the election winner. He has since distanced himself from Trump by endorsing candidates in many Republican primary elections who oppose those sponsored by Trump.
