A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament Ras Mubarak is in disagreement with the reasons cited by the Minority Caucus to have approved the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the former Lawmaker of Kumbungu Constituency, the argument that the Finance Minister has messed the economy so should be approved to face it is so flawed.

Parliament approves Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister

On Monday, 29th March, 2021, Parliament has approved the re-nomination of the Finance Minister on consensus following the recommendations outlined by the Majority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh on behalf of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Citing an example as a case study, Ras Mubarak said, a situation where the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu hands over his car to a driver who out of sheer incompetence or negligence crashed his car, in this case, will he continue to allow the driver to drive the car to crash it more?

He again said, if the economy is messed up further by the one (Ken Ofori-Atta) who crashed it initially as we are made to believe, it is the fed-up man or woman in the streets who suffers and not the politician who gets some things tax-free.

Ras Mubarak argue that, if this were meant to assuage the base of the Finance Minister’s approval, then, it has backfired big time. “We are not buying it.” He added.
