Parliament approves Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister

The eighth (8th) Parliament of Ghana has approved the nomination of Ken Ofori-Atta as Ghana’s Minister of Finance for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s second term govermment.

The House has approved the re-nomination of the Finance Minister on consensus in connection with recommendations outlined by the Majority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh on behalf of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta was one of the thirty (30) Ministerial Nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who’s vetting was postponed several times dues to health conditions.

The Finance Minister Designate could not appear before the appointments committee earlier because, he was flown to the United States of America due to complications of Covid-19 infection  as advised by his doctors.

Ken Ofori-Atta travels to the U.S for medical care

Reports suggest that, he was supposed to appear before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee on 16th of February 2021 but, his health persistence health conditions failed him.

However, he was finally vetted on Thursday, 25th March and Friday, 26th March, 2021after he returned to Ghana on Monday, March 22, 2021.

The Finance Minister was the last substantive Ministerial Nominee of President Akufo-Addo to be vetted and subsequently approved by Parliament.
