The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Godwin Ako Gunn has disclosed reasons for the delay in the announcement of Parliamentary Service Board Members by the Speaker.
According to him, some members and leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were not satisfied with the nomination of Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah hence disagreed and rejected him as a member of the Parliamentary Service Board. This he said, did not change the position of the Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to nominate the competent NDC’s General Secretary to be part of the Board.
“Infact, this announcement should have been done way back, but because of the weeping and crying from the NPP leadership, they caused it to delayed.” He explained.
His statement came after the speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has announced the five Members of the Parliamentary Service Board.
“I must admit the last few hours have been a difficult one. I have been confronted mostly with issues of, prejudice, miscommunication, and mistrust. I want to humbly attempt to clear some fears we are having.”
“First of all, let me state emphatically that, the appointment of the General secretary Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia was done by the speaker of parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin, and not the president of the Republic. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
“Thank God the speaker of Parliament insisted that, the person he is nominating to serve on the parliamentary board is the General secretary of the NDC and no one else. They can go and weep, burn the sea, or chew the coat of arms, that will be his decision.”
“Comrades, why should the NPP be shaking, weeping and afraid just because of the name Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and we being worried?” He asked.
Mr. Godwin Ako Gunn also called on the rank and file of the party especially the grassroots to remain calm because, the leadership of the NDC cannot always disclose and explain every strategy in public to its members. “Secondly, lets admit that not every strategy can be explained in public, or to the satisfaction of everyone, else it ceases to be a strategy. Be assured that the boat is on course, and we are safe !!!”
“Comrades, I will be silly not to also understand the fears many are showing. I will rather ask us to trust the executives led by chairman Ofosu Ampofo and the General secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.”
He clarified issues on the party’s position on the approval of the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and said “On the issuance of the release on the ken Ofori-Atta, the statement is asking for calm. The nation finds itself between the devil and the deep blue sea . Further and better particulars will be given to you in due course. Parliamentarians, executives, elders of the party are all committed towards sailing to a victorious 2024. This is a little piece I want to share with you as the debate goes on.”
