MP for Ketu South Constituency calls for immediate closure of flooded schools in Ketu South

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, has raised concerns over the devastating floods affecting several areas within the constituency.
She has called for the closure of schools in the affected regions, including Klikor, Agbozume, and Aflao, due to the safety risks posed to students.
Over the past few days, Ketu South Constituency has been grappling with heavy rainstorms and severe flooding, leading to the displacement of more than 1,000 people.
The situation has become increasingly dire, with numerous families unable to sleep in their rooms due to the water inundation.
In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, June 12, 2023, MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie expressed her concerns, saying,
“I think what we should do is to close down the schools in the three traditional areas affected by the flooding. That is Klikor, Agbozume, and Aflao. My fear is that anything can happen when these children are wading through the floodwaters. It is scary, I was born by the seaside, and my house is also at the beach, but I am terrified of water. What I saw this weekend has even scared me more.”
She highlighted the urgent need for action, emphasizing that the water levels on the roads were equivalent to those inside people’s homes.
She further noted that even the classrooms were flooded, leaving the community in a state of distress.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie suggested temporarily accommodating affected individuals in the Municipal Assembly hall, the only available space not affected by flooding, until suitable shelter could be provided.
She also highlighted the perilous conditions on the roads, expressing concerns about potential accidents and injuries.
Most of the roads in the affected areas are unpaved, and the accumulation of water increases the risk of slips and falls.
“We have a serious situation where the lagoons and the wetlands are all overflowing into the community, and there is no way the water can go into the sea,” she added.
