Nana Addo commissions 15MWp solar power plant at Kaleo, Upper West to improve power supply
H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the phase two of the fifteen-megawatt peak (15MWp) solar power plant initiated by his Government in Kaleo, in the Upper West Region to improvement power supply.

Nana Akufo Dankwa on Wednesday, 24th April 2024 went to Kaleo in the Upper West Region, to commission phase two of the fifteen-megawatt peak (15MWp) solar power plant initiated by the Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The occasion represents a further milestone in our journey towards harnessing renewable energy sources, and ensuring a sustainable future for our nation.

Apart from the plant adding fifteen megawatts (15MW) of power to the national electricity grid, it will also improve the quality of power supply in the Upper West Region, reduce national carbon emissions by displacing energy that gas-fired thermal plants would, otherwise, have generated (estimated at eight thousand, nine hundred and seventeen (8,917) tonnes). It will also promote practical studies in the development of solar power by the Technical Universities in the northern part of the country.
“As I indicated some two (2) years ago, when I commissioned the first phase of this project, Government is continuously investing in the electricity transmission network, to enable the country to evacuate more renewable energy through the national grid to support the extension of electricity to all parts of the country. It is our intention to attain full electricity access by the end of this year, up from the current rate of eighty-eight-point-eight percent (88.8%),” H.E Nana Addo added.
