President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), appointed a 13-member transition team to meet with their counterparts from the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama.

The list of the Transition team members officially dated December 20, 2024, was signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the office of the President.

According to the release, it was stated that “In accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845) (the “Act”), the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed the following persons to constitute the Government side of the Transition Team (the “Team”):

1. Head of the Presidential Staff appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463) [Chief of Staff] – Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare

2. The Attorney-General – Godfred Yeboah Dame

3. Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs – Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu

4. Minister responsible for Finance – Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam

5. Minister responsible for the Interior – Hon. Henry Quartey

6. Minister responsible for Defence – Hon. Dominic Nitiful

7. Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs – Hon. Shirley Ayokor Botchway

8. Minister responsible for Local Government – Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah

9. Minister responsible for National Security – Hon. Albert Ken Dapaah

The release further added other names with reference to Section 1 (2) of the Act.

“Additionally, in line with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the Team shall include the following individuals:

1. The Head of Civil Service – Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh

2. The Head of the Local Government Service – Dr. Nana Ato Arthur

3. The Secretary to the Cabinet – Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari

4. The National Security Coordinator – Mr. Edward Asomani

From the release, the date slated for the inauguration is Wednesday, 11th December, 2024.

“The Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 11th December, 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team. The President has delegated Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act as Co-Chairperson on the Team in the absence of the President.

“Furthermore, pursuant to Section 5 (1) of the Act, the President has appointed the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council. The Chairperson of the Advisory Council will be the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

“The President-elect has, as of earlier this evening, put out a statement announcing the members of his side of the Team.

“The Team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance.

“The President reaffirms his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials further.
