Nigerian National, Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu receives ten years prison sentence for cocaine smuggling

The Accra High Court has sentenced Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu, a Nigerian national residing in Brazil, to ten years in prison for the possession and attempted smuggling of cocaine into Ghana.

The court’s decision came after a rigorous trial that shed light on the severity of drug trafficking and its impact on the nation.

The incident unfolded when 16568.83 grams of cocaine were intercepted and confiscated at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by vigilant officials from the Narcotics Control Commission.

The discovery led to a thorough investigation, during which Ukechukwu was identified as the prime suspect in the illicit operation.

During the trial, compelling evidence presented by the prosecution clearly established Ukechukwu’s involvement in the drug trafficking attempt.

The court found him guilty of attempting to bring the illicit substance into the country, endangering the lives of countless Ghanaians and undermining the nation’s efforts to combat drug-related crime.

Presiding Judge Abena Mensah delivered the verdict with firmness, emphasizing the seriousness of drug offenses and their detrimental effects on society.
