No need for stakeholder engagement before making changes to the free SHS policy-EduWatch to Mahama

Africa Education Watch, an education think tank, is calling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide clarity on its intentions to review the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Kofi Asare, the Executive Secretary of the think tank, argues that NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, does not need to hold a stakeholder engagement before making decisions regarding changes to the free SHS policy.

In response to Mahama’s commitment to conducting a stakeholder engagement to evaluate the policy’s implementation within his first 100 days in power, Kofi Asare asserts that most stakeholders have already expressed their concerns about the policy, rendering any additional engagement unnecessary.

According to Asare, the crucial aspect is for the NDC to outline their specific plan for the policy rather than organizing a stakeholder forum. He emphasizes the need for the NDC to present their proposals for improving the policy, demonstrating an understanding of what changes are necessary and what measures are required to enhance it.

Asare believes that keen observers, participants, and analysts in the education sector, including leaders from the minority party, would appreciate such a comprehensive plan.

“They do not believe in holding a stakeholder forum to discuss what we have done on our policy. The stakeholders have raised these concerns in the last seven years. NDC is corporate of these concerns. They should tell us what they will do,” he stated.
