NPP Executives Boycott Mini Rally at Central Tongu Constituency

The Electoral Commission of Ghana opened its doors for the filing of nomination forms by both presidential and parliamentary candidates starting from yesterday, Monday, 9th September 2024.

Eight presidential aspirants, along with several parliamentary candidates, submitted their forms by the close of the first day.

As a political party determined to make its “Breaking the 8” slogan a reality, the NPP planned to hold mini rallies across the country alongside the filing process. These rallies were intended to provide a platform for key figures to address party members and the general public on the party’s policies and ideologies, positioning it as the best choice for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

The filing of nominations took place at various Electoral Commission offices, including Central Tongu and the national office. While a successful rally was held at the NPP’s national headquarters, where Dr. Bawumia, the party’s national executives, former executives, and elders addressed the crowd, the situation in Central Tongu was different.

In Central Tongu, about three-quarters of the constituency executives, council of elders, past constituency executives, patrons, and Dr. Siabi Worlanyo, seen as the political godfather of the parliamentary candidate, were absent. This led to a lackluster rally that lacked enthusiasm, cohesion, and energy.

One party member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “What you’re seeing here is a result of poor and ineffective planning, along with a total disregard for the principle of unity of purpose and chain of command.”

Attempts to reach Mr. Ayikpa Godwin, the parliamentary candidate, for comment were unsuccessful.
