Nsoatreman Football Club which is owned by Ignatius Baffour Awuah, MP for Sunyani Constituency and also the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations receives sponsorship from National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The contract was signed by Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Dr. Okoe-Boye after awarding Nsoatreman Football Club started receiving questions from some opposition leaders and a section of Ghanaians.
The contract signed was to last for five (5) good years which includes monetary support and some initiatives.
Also in their contracts, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would register the first hundred (100) people who would pay to watch their matches in the stadium.
Edem Agbana who is the deputy National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) became furious about the contract. Edem based his furiousness on this few points.
He said “Is it because Nsoatreman FC is owned by Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, NPP MP for Sunyani West, and Employment Minister. The board chairman is Majority leader and Suame MP, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu. On what merit did the team qualify for such support if not for it’s owner”.
In his view, this was a pure scandal. Again, the majority want to use the slightest opportunity to use the states money anyhow to their own benefit. Edem Agbana also expressed how disappointed he was seeing Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye been in such an act.
